A Vibrant Worship Community
Join us on Sundays and other times for Christian fellowship. Sundays brings us for worship, but we also value Christian fellowship before and after worship, including other times during the week so we can grow together as disciples of Christ.
We emphasize love, grace, and compassion. People are already hurting and suffering from their life experiences, and we strive to be a faith community for healing, warmth, and hospitality. Matthew 9:35-36 says, 35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them… We remember this! Christ’s grace and peace moves us to become disciples, not the fear of hell and damnation that others might preach. Come as you are!

Our church first started in 1975 when the Johnsons and the Stovers joined the church’s first pastor, Rev. Earle Grose at Magothy United Methodist Church. The gathering grew to include weekly Bible study and worship. As the congregation grew, a Deaf choir was started and Deaf leaders taught ASL to the Magothy hearing church and to the Pasadena community. In 1982, Rev. Dr. Kathy Black was the founding pastor when the Deaf congregation was officially charted as Magothy United Methodist Church of the Deaf. Today, we are mostly known as a Deaf church for the Deaf community. Magothy Deaf Church celebrated its 50th anniversary on May 3, 2025. Read more of the church’s history in the 50th Anniversary booklet. Learn even more on our History Page.
